Who am I?
My name is Aimee Watkins and for the time being I am working full time as well as going to school full time.

My personal goals are to be better at knowing, looking and creating on the internet. I am studying and will obtain my degree in Graphic Arts. My interests are design, music, and communication.
What’s your experience with New Media?
I watch videos and podcasts. I haven’t ever created one though. I’ve created a blog on livejournal.com but closed it. I maintain a blog on myspace.com now.

Carolos Moreno
Who are you?
My name is Carlos Moreno and I was born in Mexico City. I work as a
Web/Graphic Designer for Al Dia, a Spanish language daily published by
The Dallas Morning News.
What are your personal interests? Studies? Goals?
My interests include: Drawing, painting, animation, cartooning, soccer,
music and video games. Some of the things I enjoy the most are drawing,
since I’ve been doing this since I was a little kid. I have an educational
background in Multimedia and Computer Arts and here I am again as an
ATEC student, hopping to get a career in 3D Animation in the near future.
What’s your experience with new media?
Working in a professional environment for the last 3 years, has given me
the opportunity to get closer and more familiar with many of the new
technologies and resources that exist and that can be applied to online
news such as RSS feeds, Video and most recently Weblogs. I’ve always
believed that learning now a day is never enough, specially with all
the technology changing constantly, I’ve learned the importance of
keeping up with new technologies and developments.
How technically savvy are you?
I’m pretty proficient with the most common graphic and web design tools out
there as they are part of my daily activities at work.

Alberto Rovira
http://www.henryjenkins.org
Confessions of an Aca/Fan: The Official Weblog of Henry Jenkins
Jenkins is the director of the MIT Comparative Media Studies Program and writes about media and pop culture. He started his blog this summer since his new book Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide has just come out. His posts are really interesting and after reading his blog, I plan on reading his book soon. I think both it and his blog could be useful references for ATECH majors.
and on the entertainment side:
http://www.stereogum.com/
Stereogum is one of the more popular mp3 blogs and generally focuses on indie rock with a few posts on bigger artists. It’s a fun read, it’s not too hipster-snobby and is a good way to find out about new bands.

Alberto Rovira
My name is Alberto Rovira, and I am a grad student in the ATECH program.
I tend to be a little ADD with my interests, but generally speaking, I’m interested in art, movies, music, books, and anything else that falls into the realm of culture/pop-culture. I also enjoy traveling. I became interested in ATECH program because I had become more and more interested in possibilities digital technology offers it users in terms of new forms of expression and the freedom to create and distribute their work independently. I came into the program with a liberal arts background and have had to play catch-up, so I’m still figuring out what excatly I’m going to do for a career, but I’d have to say that I’m gravitating towards something involving design.
My experience with new media has mostly been as a consumer, I read a few blogs, am addicted to youtube, and have a myspace.
I don’t really know how tech savvy I am. I’m pretty comfortable with computers (PC’s mostly, but am learning more about macs and want to switch) but am not a whiz. I know photoshop and little maya, as well as some html and css.

Anthony (Tony) Lee
I have a fairly small amount of familiarity with writing blogs or hosting podcasts, but I’m pretty certain that i’ll pick up on things. My full name is Anthony Xavier Lee, but I go by Tony (drunk people have a hard time remembering three syllable words it seems). I enjoy reading (anything that’s put in front of me!), music (all types), and since i moved to Dallas a few months ago, watching the Daily Show, the Colbert Report, Family Guy, and the Drew Carey show. I love collecting movies, and I have waaay too many of them. It seems that I am an ATEC major now; when I transferred to UTD this semester, I was placed in the ATEC program because there’s no Speech Communications degree plan. Now that I’ve been to your class and a Media Production class, I think I’m really going to enjoy this. As far as computer experience goes, I’ve been around PC’s since I was born, my parents having been programmers, and I’m very comfortable with any new product or program I’m introduced to. i don’t really have a lot of Mac experience, but all things come in time.

Janice Quick
UIE Brain Sparks – http://www.uie.com/brainsparks
Brain Sparks is Jared Spool’s blog. He is a nationally known User
Experience guru. I especially like him because of the way he articulates
his ideas – although usually based on actual research, he states things
simply, uses common sense, and is frequently funny.
Eye Level – http://eyelevel.si.edu
Eye Level is a blog produced by the Smithsonian American Art museum. It’s
colorful, eye catching, gives a good summary of a piece of art, and then
provides links into the museum site for more information.

Janice Quick
I’m Janice Quick. I am currently registered as a Humanities non-degree
student, but I may switch to the MAIS (Master’s in Interdisciplinary Studies
program). I am interested in combining history courses and technology
courses.
My goal is to learn about new media for two reasons: One, I’m interested in
history and would like to see better history, museum, digital archives, and
photography sites (such as WPA photography) on the Internet. Two, because I
am in the corporate world, I feel the need to keep up and expand my
knowledge.
My experience with new media – i.e. blogs, podcasts, wikis – is very
limited. However I have more experience with the Web. I work as a User
Experience consultant for EDS. I design the information architecture (i.e.
wireframes) for web sites and /or conduct usability tests to determine
whether users can successfully use sites or not. Because our design teams
have visual designers (i.e. graphic artists) and programmers, I do not have
much experience in these areas.
