Carlos’ Blog TBA.

Posted by emac3326 on August 31, 2006

Carlos set up his blog here, and wonders aloud:

I’m still not sure what I would like to write about. As you mentioned
last class, I’m one of those people that are more ‘graphic’
oriented…

Here are some ideas that came up to my mind:

1. Sketch Blog: I could draw a sketch/gesture (on a daily basis) and
write something about it or make up a short story. It will help in
polish my creativity.

2. Soccer Blog: I play soccer very often so I could write about my
experiences (Not so sure on this one)

3. Work Blog: Experiencies at work (altough it could become quite boring)

4. Personal and professional life experiences (I have too many to talk
about, althoug I rather keep them to myself, some of them could be
quite embarassing or disturbing)

I kind of like the first option. Remember the Gaping Void site I showed? The blog does not have to communicate to the outside world, per se. You can use the blog to collect what I call the breadcrumbs of life — the sketches, ideas, stuff you collect and want to remember or have handy at a later time.

Lex & Terry Podcast

Posted by emac3326 on August 31, 2006

Carlos Moreno sends a link for a podcast from a local station, 102.1 The Edge.

People call to the show and try to get advice about real situations
from this two guys, sometimes crude and/or rude but most of the times
funny.

I am curious. Do you listen to this show because you don’t have time to listen to it when it’s on air?

And Who Doesn’t Like Cooking?

Posted by emac3326 on August 31, 2006

Rachna is taking an interest of hers — cooking — and blogging about it. Here you might be able to survey the cooking/blog landscape and provide readers with interesting links, news, and that special treat (pardon the pun), your receipes. Perhaps one a week? A nice way to keep people visiting the site.

I am fond of cooking and eating home cooked food. I would like to share some of my favorite recipes with everyone. Hopefully it is a suitable topic for this assignment. I just chose one of the things I love to do.

I did have some issue though:

-The posts are not coming in reverse chronological order. Maybe it is
because I changed the time zone after the first post and moved it back by 5
hours so technically the second post is not the latest post.

-Can I allow other visitors to contibute their recipes to my blog? I am not
sure how it is done.

Chupacabra Blog.

Posted by emac3326 on August 31, 2006

I must say, Joel, your blog is ambitious. I’ve mentioned the Long Tail, and this is another example. You’ve got room to education, provide images, other links, and write. I’ll be interested to see how this evolves.

My blog site will be about the little known threat of the Hot Headed
Chupacabras that live in Antarctica and eat penguins.

The Hot Headed Chupacabra is a descendant of the famous Puerto Rican
Chupacabra, only it has adapted differently to survive in the extreme cold.
There is little known about these illusive creatures.  However, the little
bit we do know is that they burrow tunnels deep under the ice by creating
some kind of extreme heat that radiates through an extremely  large, bald
forehead.  This creature melts tunnels through the ice like they were made
of warm butter.  They work in groups digging tunnels close to the surface
where mass groups of penguins gather.  The Hot Heads burrow a tunnel around
the circumference of the penguins, caving in the ice below and trapping
them.  The penguins are sucked dry of their blood and their carcass’s
discarded without remorse.

This site’s purpose is to create worldwide awareness of this incredible, yet
destructive, creature.

DJ Fizz — Electro Funkology

Posted by emac3326 on August 31, 2006

I am a big fan of all kinds of music, so I was glad that Damion sent me this one, DJ Fizz — Electro Funkology, a name even George Clinton would like. Anyway, I am of the belief that blogs, podcasts, new media in general, is a great way to find new music. For me, at least.

I came across the above referenced podcast, and found my self enjoying the
music. I love old school hip hop and DJ Fizz puts an interesting twist to
it by mixing in some little house and techno. If you like old school hip
hop there are 10 episodes with different mixes on them, so I urge you to
check it out!

Capoeira Blog

Posted by emac3326 on August 31, 2006

Damion has a great idea for a blog. I like it because it explores a really niche subject, Capoeria, and I’d like to see how he writes it but also who is attracted to it. You guys will hear me a lot about the Long Tail, and one day I promise to actually spend time on the concept. But suffice to say, for now, we are alive and well in the tail.

The idea for my blog will be “My Jogo, My Game”. In this blog I will
discuss the world of Capoeira pronounced “Cap-oo-way-uh”. I will talk about
its history, misconceptions and Brazil’s attempt to erase every trace of it;
to its reappearance after years of silence and the emergence of this
wonderful martial art into the mainstream. I have come across many people
who don’t know what it is or its importance. I would like to address this
not only because I am a practitioner but also to open the minds of people
who have the mentality of not understanding equals not caring. I will let
everyone know that concept of Capoeira can be used to navigate through
life’s ups and downs.

I Sell Women’s Shoes.

Posted by emac3326 on August 31, 2006

Kyle Penn’s blog looks very promising. Here he needs to train the eye and the ear to pick up on the mundane details of life. He can also learn to prod the subject by asking “innocent” questions, for more detail. I’d keep a notebook handy to jot down thoughts when no one is looking. (My notebook of choice, if anybody cares, is the small Moleskine. It slips in your back pocket and you hardly know it’s there.)

I have had abunch of ideas for a blog like a made up story of a guy
deserted on an island, or something with getting my art out there, but I
was wondering what would give me the most content regularly and I decided
it was my job. I sell ladies’ shoes and usually something funny or annoying
happens and I thought I might could share the stories in an amusing way.
With that said, here is my blog unless I think of something better very soon:

RFID in Medical Records Technology.

Posted by emac3326 on August 31, 2006

Kim sends us a link for a podcast about the future of implantable chips using RFID technology for medical records information. Interesting if the issue of medical records databases is of interest to you. The link. (This opens in Real Media format, so it looks like it’s a streaming link. I don’t have Real Media loaded. I’m a podcast snob. Anyway, we’ll need to discuss this.)

This is an excellent example of using new media for information, not so much entertainment. The information can be used to help Kim with her school activities, a future career, any number of things. A few others in class are starting to think this way.

For the record, Kim’s well-name blog is here.

Laura’s Ultimate Blog and a Few Goodies

Posted by emac3326 on August 31, 2006

Laura Chambers

The url for my blog is http://balletdancer51.wordpress.com/.  I intend to write about Ultimate Frisbee mostly, but there will probably be a little bit of eveything.  It is all described in my first post.

Two blogs that I enjoy reading are:

http://europeanhistory.about.com/

This blog is about European History and advancement of knowledge on the subject.  I enjoy reading it because it tells me a lot about what’s going on in the field of history that i want to enter someday, and it keeps me knowledgeable on the subject.

http://www.spokesmanreview.com/blogs/volcano/

This is a blog that I’ve followed since I was in high school.  For a long time (even now) I wanted to be a volcanologist.  I’m still extremely interested in it, and I like to follow new developments, especially in the Cascades.

Listening to podcasts, I’ve decided to include one of my favorite series.  It is Dane Cook and many different remixes, songs, and stand up.  I love Dane Cook’s stand up, so this series is one of my favorites.

http://podcasts.yahoo.com/search?p=dane+cook&c=b

Click listen on the first one to hear one of my favorite series.  *Warning: Vulgar language is used extensively, if that offends, don’t listen*
