Rizwan’s Interactive Podcast Desires

Posted by emac3326 on September 7, 2006

For his podcast this week, Rizwan chose …

an Interaction Design podcast that is created by Gerry Gaffney. He is the founder & director of Information & Design. He lectures under-graduate and post-graduate students in various universities on usability and user experience design. Although the podcast has no music and the quality is not the greatest I really like the interviews and the his ideas because I can relate to them and he has credibility. As they say as they say content is king, the bells and whistles don’t matter as long as I am getting something of value in return.

I assume, then, that you are getting something in return even though the production value is not that great. What value are you getting? Could this be something you stick with over time? Can you find this information elsehwere? Just curious.

Jumping ahead just a little, Rizwan has been thinking about his podcast and he may team with new student Cone Johnson on an interactive design podcast. Excellent.

As my podcast project I would like to do an Interaction Design podcast in which I would like to interview students about they way they interact with design at UTD and outside the university. Whether it is the UTD website, Design of Buildings. I will definitely need to work out the details but since design is all around us I think we can get good content that would be interesting to the listeners.

You may have chosen to do something with Cone; I’m not sure. If not, play around with the above idea and flesh it out some more. There’s definately something there. You can play with the format and setup and settle on an approach you are comfortable with in the coming weeks. I agree with your point: “design is all around us.” While it may be cliche in design circles, it certainly is lost among the common man and woman. They may like the iPod, or the design of the Mac, or a hot car, but do they think about design on an everyday, functional, interactive way? Where can this be improved. I know a guy named Hazem who has some interesting thoughts on experiential design …

Rizwan’s New Blog Focus: Interactive Design

Posted by emac3326 on September 7, 2006

Rizwan, our class blog ringer, so to speak, has setup WordPress on his own hosted server, so he has re-focused it on interaction design. Very nice. Cool that you’re focusing on interaction design. Cool that you set up WordPress on your hosted server. Perhaps, if any student wants to set up WordPress on a hosted or their own server, they can tap into Rizwan for help.

I want to let you know that I have finally decided to focus my blog on Interaction Design. My webhosting company provides WordPress with my hosting plan so I have set up the new blog on there. Here is the link http://www.rizwanjavaid.com/themindseye. … I also installed a new theme that is cleaner than the free ones provided by WordPress. I will be adjusting the design as time permits. I like this theme because it is clean but what I don’t like is that the blogroll is all bunched up and does not show the categories. That is something that I will have to fix myself.

Linesandcolors and Notcom

Posted by emac3326 on August 21, 2006

Rizwan JavaidĀ

Here are the two blogs that I have started reading on a daily basis:

I like reading lines and colors because it deals with a variety of artistic channels ranging from drawing, painting, 3d, comics, pen and ink and much more. I like to be exposed to a variety of ideas, thoughts and styles to help me and encourage me to try them out. This blog is by a comic artist Charlie Parker one of the reasons that he started this blog is to broaden the readers artisitc horizons and introduce new/old/interesting/quirky/edgy/out of the mainstream/classical/not so famous yet great artists and thier techniques.

NotCot is a design blog that is run by Jean Aw in LA. NotCot is a blog about good design in everyday life. The products she displays in the blog are simple, smart, useful and user friendly. Design is a vital part of our daily life so finding out about products that are pleasing to the eye and user friendly is fun and keeps me coming back everyday.

Personal Synopsis: Javaid

Posted by emac3326 on August 21, 2006

Hi Dan,
My name is Rizwan Javaid. I have been a Web Designer for about 7 years.

  • The tools I use are Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver.
  • Know HTML, some Actionscript.
  • Want to expand my skills to 3d design, programming and new media.
  • Use PC at work and a Mac at home so either is fine with me.
  • Planning on a double major in ATEC and Cognitive Science to help improve me as a Web designer.
  • Work full time and taking 4 classes in the evenings.
  • Work for a Real Estate software development company.
  • We are currently implementing MS Sharepoint for the Real Estate professionals to collaborate on deals and projects. SharePoint has never been used for the internet only intranets so this is the bleeding edge (a big headache also).
  • Currently trying to improve my drawing skills.
  • I have tried starting a blog about everyday events in my life but I quit feeding the beast after about a week.
  • Recently started reading blogs on a daily basis which I think will help me start writing again.
