Must See TV: Damion’s Capoeira Vidcast

I’ve set aside some time in class to go over some of the podcasts/videocasts that students found this week — assuming the links and ‘net connection works. Anyway, if you have time, watch this movie. Otherwise, we will watch in class.

 

I searched for about an hour before I found this vidcasts and it was well
worth the wait!  It gives some insight into why people practice Capoeira
today. I would like for everyone to view this so they can see what my world
is like when I practice Capoeira.  If I can get permission, I want to post

DJ Fizz — Electro Funkology

I am a big fan of all kinds of music, so I was glad that Damion sent me this one, DJ Fizz — Electro Funkology, a name even George Clinton would like. Anyway, I am of the belief that blogs, podcasts, new media in general, is a great way to find new music. For me, at least.

I came across the above referenced podcast, and found my self enjoying the
music. I love old school hip hop and DJ Fizz puts an interesting twist to
it by mixing in some little house and techno. If you like old school hip
hop there are 10 episodes with different mixes on them, so I urge you to
check it out!

Capoeira Blog

Damion has a great idea for a blog. I like it because it explores a really niche subject, Capoeria, and I’d like to see how he writes it but also who is attracted to it. You guys will hear me a lot about the Long Tail, and one day I promise to actually spend time on the concept. But suffice to say, for now, we are alive and well in the tail.

The idea for my blog will be “My Jogo, My Game”. In this blog I will
discuss the world of Capoeira pronounced “Cap-oo-way-uh”. I will talk about
its history, misconceptions and Brazil’s attempt to erase every trace of it;
to its reappearance after years of silence and the emergence of this
wonderful martial art into the mainstream. I have come across many people
who don’t know what it is or its importance. I would like to address this
not only because I am a practitioner but also to open the minds of people
who have the mentality of not understanding equals not caring. I will let
everyone know that concept of Capoeira can be used to navigate through
life’s ups and downs.

Selmon Damion

One of my favorite blogs is www.planetcapoeira.com/roda/.  Since I practice Capoeira I find it informative and some of the videos shown are pretty cool to watch.  It also keeps me in the loop with how Capoeira is doing in the mainstream sports arena and how everyone is starting become more and more interested in it.  The site where the blog is located also has a few podcasts and a wiki and it is a cool place for people who do not know about Capoeira can go to for info.

The other site that have been checking out, is http://www.cnet.com/ it is a good place to read reviews and talk about new gadgets.  They use podcasts as well.  I usually go there to read about a new cell phone or tv that I am interested in purchasing, because the review are honest.

Personal Synpopsis: Selmon

Damion Selmon 

Hey Dan, this is Damion Selmon and here is the first part of my assignment.

I am 27 years old, and I have been in the mortgage industry (on the collections side) for about 8 years or so.  I found my passion for graphic arts in high school, when I learned some basic animations, and graphic designs.  From that point forwarded, I knew that was the career field for me but life stepped in and had to take care of other things first.  I love to help people and I plan on using my degree and training to establish my own comply that caters mainly to small business with advertising, product design, web development, and anything else that I can do to help them become successful in the ever changing world of technology.  I have taken a basic media class in junior college where I learned a little flash, html, Photoshop, and sound forge.  I am ready to learn much more.  I have always been the techy in my family from the days of MacGyver to today when cell phones changing every other week.  I always figure out how to use any piece of electronics that I and put my hands on.  Therefore, my drive is endless.  I hope to learn a lot from this class because I am ready to leave this rat race and embark in the area where I truly feel I belong.  Umm I am sure I left out some more of my formal training so if I think of it I will let you know.
